GAMEGAL/E3/2003

/PROLOGUE/

And the E3 Trend of the Year Award goes to (drumroll, please)... full-scale character customization! Tall, plump, gaunt, small -- your game protagonist can now have it all.

Other than a suprising lack of booth babes (hel-lo recession), few titles stood out as best of show. A parade of sequels took precedence this year, and we can't wait to get our nubbins on the likes of Half-Life 2, Sims 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and more.

The Nokia N-Gage, the multimedia polyglot, attracted scads of attention, but wasn't nearly as fun as the Sony Eye Toy, a USB camera for PS2 that inserts the gamer into the game. Other than seeing Frodo on the show floor, it's tempting to say that, overall, E3 2003 wasn't one for the history books.

While you ponder that assesment, check our E3 previews, showfloor pics and our favorite place to name names, the Hall of Shame. - Libe Goad
