UPDATE: SUMMER 2005:
GameGal Editor Libe Goad is now the Senior Programming Manager of AOL's newly expanded video games channel, running AOL's editorial coverage of console and PC games. She also runs the video games sections of Blender and Sync magazines. Meanwhile, co-founder Dan Ackerman is now a Senior Associate Editor at CNET.com, covering high-end PCs and multimedia technology.

Founded in 1999, GameGal was one of the first game websites to cater to female gamers. GameGal is aimed at a general interest audience, applying mainstream consumer magazine production values to America's fastest-growing entertainment medium.

According to the Entertainment Software Association, 39% of people who play interactive games are women. But, despite girl gamers accounting for more than a third of a nearly $7 billion industry, the traditional game press has paid them scant attention. GameGal aims to correct this oversight, by providing in-depth news and reviews for female game players of all stripes, from casual beginners to seasoned pros.

GameGal has become the most-recognized name in the women’s interactive entertainment category and has been interviewed by, or covered in, publications including: The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Wired, PC Magazine, GameNow, Computer Games Magazine, The San Diego Tribune, Computer Gaming World, Surge, The Boston Herald, The Pittsburgh Post- Gazette, Slashdot and several books on the gaming industry, including Monster Gaming (Paraglyph Press) and William’s Almanac: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Video Games (IQ). In 2003, GameGal was named one of the Top 100 Undiscovered Sites in PC Magazine’s “Top 200 Sites” issue.

GameGal’s best-known special features include the Annual Holiday Gift Guide, helping women gamers track down the perfect games for their tastes and the yearly E3 special, which features the popular “Hall of Shame” booth babe gallery.

Reviews and previews from GameGal are available on GameRankings.com, GameTab.com and other major review compilation sites. GameGal’s content is also syndicated via an RSS newsfeed, available through several major news syndicators.

GameGal’s co-founders are both writers and editors with extensive experience in publishing and the games industry. Editor Libe Goad is a Senior Writer at technology publishing company Ziff Davis. She was formerly the Editor-at-Large of award-winning game site Happy Puppy and Video Games Editor for Kozmo.com. Before that, she was the Managing Editor of a stable of wine and spirits magazines. Co-founder Dan Ackerman was Senior Editor at UGO.com, where he headed up their E3.net site. He is now the Editor-in-Chief of Clubplanet.com, a leading nightlife/music quarterly magazine and website. Libe and Dan currently contribute game reviews and previews to publications including Blender, Sync, Computer Gaming World, PC Magazine and MTV.com.
