Researchers Compare Counterstrike, Chess

A study at Loyola University in Chicago concludes that online games like Counter-Strike, with their strategy and tactics, are the much like a game of chess. Additionally, they promote social values by relying so heavily on trust and cooperation, a concept often missed by casual observers who equate gaming with mindless action.

The professor in charge of the study says, “There's a cultural motif that underlies the critiques that go on around this. The idea of mindless activity is given short shrift in culture where productivity is given the highest praise."
