The Nintendo/Porn Connection
Ok, not so much a connection as a misunderstanding. You've probbly heard about this by now, but a law firm representing Nintendo send a cease-and-desist letter to gothy T&A site suicidegirls.com.
The alleged offense? One of the members of the site mentioned that her favorite games are Zelda and Metroid in her online profile.
Of course the internet community jumped all over this one, and Nintendo was quick to apologize for the mixup.

Nintendo Sexes Up DS
Nintendo aims to push their new DS handheld system at older players through a series of sexually suggestive ads. The print campaign includes ads in magazines like Maxim and Blender, with a “hot girl” telling gamers how to “score.” Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
"When you're a kid, you're always told you can't touch anything," said Perrin Kaplan, vice president of marketing at Nintendo of America told CNET. "Touching is good. You're grown-up now, so read it how you want."

Mario Dioramas on Fire!
The webbernet has been abuzz about these Super Mario Brothers dioramas from Jbox.com. There's seven in the collection, our favorite the one where Mario is bouncing atop clouds to gather sweet, sweet coin. Sounds like a good gig, if you can get it.
All of the dioramas are currently sold out, but the site is taking pre-orders with a warning — do it fast!

Sneaky Metroid 2 Sites Appear
Nintendo is kicking off their Metroid marketing campaign with two new mock websites. Channel 51 claims to be a site about UFOs and other unexplained phenomena created by Samantha Manus, while Orbis Labs is a weapons lab that makes a “Battle Sphere.” Any of that sound familiar?
Both sites have lots of clever references to the upcoming Metroid Prime 2: Echoes – kind of like the infamous ilovebees.com site used to promote Halo 2.

GTA Carjacked!
Holy downloads, Batman! It looks like another hot game has been leaked to the pirate community. Weeks after a version of Halo 2 reportedly showed up on the web, the code from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is also floating around in cyberspace, according to Gamespot.
"The proper authorities are investigating the theft and are continuing to investigate all possible leads to ensure there is no further dissemination of our creative content," says Rockstar.
But, we’d point out that you can’t just download a pirated PS2 or Xbox game and pop it into your console – you need a modded unit, which is increasingly rare these days.

Larry Banned in Australia!
While we weren’t really looking forward to the new Leisure Suit Larry game – it seemed a little too Man Show for our tastes – we were surprised to hear the game has been outright banned in Australia.
Apparently they have an Office of Film and Literature Classification that can ban things, and Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude has been cited for “obscured and/or implied sexual activity and obscured and partial nudity involving stylized, animated characters.”
Who knew that was such a big offense? This from the country that gave us Mad Max and Russell Crowe.

Nancy Drew Review in PC Mag
Just a quick note: The next issue of PC Magazine has yet another review from GameGal’s token game guy, Dan Ackerman. It’s a review of Nancy Drew and the Secret of Shadow Ranch, from Her Interactive. Look for the “Special Digital Home Issue” of PC Magazine, which should be on newsstands next week.
Not online yet, so I’ll post the link when it’s available.
