No, We're Not on Vacation, Really!
Ok, things have been a little slow here at GameGal World Headquarters lately, but it's all for a good cause, we swear! Several good causes, actually.
We'd tell you all about it, but then we'd have to kill you. No, really. So, instead we'll just claim that GameGal's fearless leaders have been so swamped with freelance gigs (Sync, Blender, MTV.com) that things have been a little hectic.
But stay tuned - because Libe's in the middle of destroying some humans (all of them, it seems) and we'll have some brand-spanking new reviews next week!

Nintendo Ads Appear
For the past few days, Nintendo fanboys (and fangirls) have been pissing themselves over some allegedly leaked Nintendo Revolution ads.
We'll let you judge for yourself whether they're real or not, but in the meantime, we'll just say that at this point we'd be happy to get any solid next-gen info from Mario and company, this patent application for a new type of controller notwithstanding.
Until then, we'll just have to go to sleep at night with visions of Nintendogs dancing in our heads.

Preview Time
We got to spend some time with preview versions of upcoming adventure game Indigo Prophecy and graffiti action title Marc Ecko's Getting Up, which we're writing about for an upcoming issue of Sync magazine. Both are from Atari, which has been in the news lately, but not in a good way.
Both games pretty much rock, and Indigo Prophecy (formerly known as Fahrenheit) looks like it might be one of our favorite games of the year (seriously).
Stay tuned for more in-depth GameGal previews of both!

Fight! Fight!
It was only a matter of time before some of the players in the currently hot game blog category got into some good old-fashioned feuds. Right now it's Kotaku and Spong. You can make what you will of their back-and-forth here and here (and here).
If you're still basking in the warm glow of blogs-as-traditional-journalism, you might be aghast, but if you're old enough to remember muck-raking sites (we mean that in a good way) like Old Man Murray...well, then you're probably around as old as we are.

Undercover Investigation
Our friends over at 1UP.com had us rolling in the aisles with their hilarious undercover investigation of retail outlets. They sent a girl into several stores, posing as the clueless girlfriend of a gamer, looking for a game console.
They had her ask question from the intelligent ("Can you surf the Web on any of these systems?") to the goofy ("Is that that football hockey game?"), and recorded the unsuspecting clerks' answers.
Our favorite quote - the GameCube is geared for a younger audience, according to a Best Buy clerk, "It's more for toddlers and a little bit above that."

Neat Knit
We know a trend when we see one, and knitting is, in a word, hot. We don't know why, but everyone seems to be wielding oversized needles these days - and living in downtown NYC, we're not talking about seeing grandma working on some mittens on the back porch, either.
Gameblog Kotaku points out a webpage about men who knit (and crochet), and naturally, most of their output is video-game-related. There's controller covers and, of course, Katamari Damacy hats.

Halo Coming to Multiplex Near You
While we may all snicker at the thought of the upcoming Doom movie, where The Rock fights demons on some planet other than Mars (where all the Doom games are actually set), and we ran in fear from House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark, we're actually kinda interested in the possibility of a Halo movie.
Microsoft wants to make sure the Hollywood studios are super-interested, so they had a guy dressed up as Master Chief, the game's protagonist, hand-deliver a spec script to several studios, hoping to start a bidding war for the film.
The script was penned by Alex Garland, who wrote 28 Days Later, and will probably be totally scrapped once Brett Ratner is attached to direct (we kid, we kid).

Atari Loses CEO
The company that operated under the classic video game moniker, Atari (actually a spin-of of French publisher Infogrames) has lost its CEO.
James Caparro is leaving to take a job with another company. In the meantime, former Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell is stepping in to be interim CEO. A publicly traded company, shares fell 15 percent after the news got out.
We’ve actually been paying a good deal of attention to Atari lately, with their Marc Ecko's Getting Up game – based on classic urban graffiti tagging – getting a lot of press.

Pretty Old Scrolls
They're so old, in fact, they're Elder Scrolls! Ok, normally we wouldn't get all worked up over a sword and sorcery game - we're not exactly regulars at the local Dungeons and Dragons meet-up and we don't wear one of those "I Roll 20’s" t-shirts. But, a few years ago, we got totally taken in by a game called Morrowind (or Elder Scrolls III) and it was the most ambitious game we'd ever played.
With hundreds of NPCs and dozens of quests over an area bigger than some New England states, Morrowind was truly a go anywhere, do anything game. Kind of like a single-player version of a MMO game.
The inevitable sequel is finally here, and it's called Oblivion: Elder Scrolls 4. It’s set in a different country than Morrowind, but the free-roaming gameplay and huge scope are still intact. We are, naturally, very excited, and you will be, too, once you read this excellent preview from Console Gold.

All in the Wrist
Ever want to sport a rubber wristband without actually supporting one of those troublesome charities? Jinx has a new blue version of the popular wrist accessory, this one emblazoned with the word "Gamer."
"This silicone bracelet is intended to be worn on the wrist but can also be worn on freakishly tiny ankles and necks."
Need we say more?
