Fire Knocks Out Prada, Take 2

There was a huge fire in a building in NYC's Soho district last night, mere blocks from GameGal World Headquarters. Most of the news reports focused on the damage to the Prada store on the building's ground floor, or the effect on the offices of Interview magazine or the trendy restaurant in the basement.

Not mentioned in any of the mainstream news coverage is that 575 Broadway also houses the NYC office of Take 2. GameGal founder Libe Goad was even had a meeting there this week (for her day job as Editor of AOL's video game section), which has now been rescheduled.

Take 2 and subsidiary Rockstar also have offices right up the street, coincidentally across from the Crunch gym where the GameGal crew works out – giving us a bird's-eye view of them from the front row of LifeCycles.

The Death of an Xbox 360

A girl gamer named Gina is using her 1UP.com blog to document the process of getting her Xbox 360 repaired. Gina got the infamous red lights of death on her console, and had to call Microsoft tech support. Fro those not in the know, red lights on your 360 usually means hardware failure.

She wasn't particularly pleased with the low priority response she got, which involved sending the console back for repair, which could take weeks, so she decided to keep a running blog of her tech support experiences so anyone else who ran into a problem with their Xbox 360 would know what to expect.

Currently up to Day 7, she says she expects her system back today, which is a pretty decent turnaround, all things considered. Check out her blog to get the latest scoop.

Sex in Games Conference

Seeing as the most popular panel at 2005's Women's Gamer Conference was the Sex in Games panel, it's little surprise that there's a whole show devoted to that subject now. It's going to be held in June in San Francisco, and according to the official site, "This unique conference will focus on the design, development, and technology of sex in video games."

Be there or be square…

Post-CES Blowout

GameGal founders Libe and Dan were in Las Vegas last week for the Consumer Electronics Show, also known as CES. Dan was covering the show for CNET, Libe for AOL. Between the two of them, they churned out several thousand words on dozens of products, so take a peek and you might find something interesting.

PS3 Rumor Patrol

Libe's got a great story up at AOL Games about the latest PS3 rumors. Since there wasn't much new to report at CES from Sony, she dug into the current conventional wisdom and rates the most prevalent PS3 rumors as truthful or not.

Hopefully we'll know more before E3 in May, but until then, this should get you up to speed.
